Properly working garbage disposals make kitchen cleanup a breeze. However, if they are not working properly, your after dinner clean up routine is dampened.
If the disposal seems broken there are a few quick remedies you can try before calling a qualified plumber.

Try to Clear the Clog

More times than not your garbage disposal will not grind because there is a foreign object blocking the blades. Removing the blockage is the easiest way to get it working again. Please DO NOT put your hand down into the mechanism, but instead look underneath the sink at the backside of the garbage disposal. Unplug the disposal and remove clog from the back side.

Is Your Disposal Leaking?

If your disposal is leaking, make sure that all the connections are on tightly and make sure you are using plumbers putty to seal the connection. You may have a cracked hose and would need to purchase that from your local hardware store. If you don’t feel comfortable crawling under your sink give Flow Masters Plumbing Solutions a call and we will be happy to help you out. Does you Disposal stink?

If you are not caring for your disposal properly they will tend to have a nasty odor.

  1. Run the cold water into disposal (Yes! COLD water)
  2. Add some dish soap and let the disposal run for a minute.
